Frequently Asked Questions

What is Scribeer?

Scribeer is a professional transcription service that converts audio and video files to text. We use advanced AI technology (Nova-2) for accurate transcriptions with automatic speaker recognition.

What is the difference between Cloud and Private Mode?

Cloud: Cloud Mode: Uses our powerful servers for the highest quality and speed. You pay per minute via credits. Works on all devices, including mobile.

Private: Private Mode: Uses your own computer's processing power (WebGPU). Your data never leaves your device. This requires a subscription, but you can transcribe unlimited without extra costs. Processing time depends entirely on your computer's power.

What file formats are supported?

Scribeer supports the following formats: MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, MOV, WEBM, OGG, FLAC, and WMV. The maximum file size is 500 MB per upload.

How does the credit system work?

Upon registration you receive 50 free minutes for Cloud Mode. After that, you can buy credits (pay-as-you-go) or get a subscription for unlimited local use (Private Mode).

In what formats can I download my transcription?

You can download your transcription as a Word document (.docx) or as a PDF file.

How accurate is the transcription?

We use Nova-2, the most advanced transcription engine available today. Accuracy depends on audio quality, but is generally very high with automatic speaker recognition.

How long are my files stored?

Cloud: Cloud: Transcriptions are stored for 90 days in your secure account.

Private: Private Mode: Transcriptions are stored in your browser. Note: if you clear your browser history, they will be gone unless you manually sync them to your account ("Save to account").

What are the system requirements for Private Mode?

Because Private Mode runs on your own hardware, you need a modern computer. We recommend:

  • Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (version 113+)
  • A laptop or desktop with at least 8GB of RAM
  • A reasonably modern graphics card (GPU)

Private Mode currently doesn't work on mobile phones and tablets due to hardware limitations.

Why is Private Mode limited to 300MB?

Private Mode processes audio entirely in your browser with WebGPU technology. This means your computer does all the work, including:

  • Loading the entire audio file into memory
  • Decoding the audio to raw sound data
  • Running the AI model (Whisper) on your GPU

For files larger than 300MB, your browser may freeze or crash, especially on computers with less than 16GB RAM. The 300MB limit ensures a stable experience on most systems.

Tip: Have a powerful computer (16GB+ RAM)? You can still upload files larger than 300MB - you'll get a warning but can proceed. For very large files, we recommend Cloud Mode.

Can I share my account with others?

No, a Private Pro subscription is strictly personal. Sharing login credentials or using one account by multiple people is not allowed and may lead to permanent blocking of your access. For use within teams or organizations, we offer the Private Teams subscription.

What are subtitles and why do they cost extra credits?

In addition to the standard transcription, you can also generate subtitle files (SRT and VTT). These contain exact timestamps that sync with your video, so you can use them directly for subtitles in video players or editing software.

Generating subtitles requires extra processing power to calculate and format the precise timing per sentence. Therefore, subtitles cost 10 extra credits per transcription.
